An update on the installation of the 4-manual pipe organ
At the end of April 2017, two large shipping containers travelling from Padova, Italy, reached their final destination: the Buckfast Abbey Church in Devon, England. Contained in this shipment were the parts of the first of two organs to be installed at the Abbey. The parts were carefully unloaded during a long work day and stored inside the Abbey Church.
The following day, the installation of the Quire organ begun in the early morning. The Quire organ includes two parts installed in solid oak cases behind the north and south Quire stalls and one enclosed Solo division in the Triforium.
As time goes on, the windchests are placed at various levels, the wooden and metal pipes are installed, the organ cases are built up to fit perfectly in between the arches of the church.
There are three small facades on each side, located above the beautiful hand carved wooden Quire stalls. Each of the facades has an embossed pipe in the centre, an attractive feature that enriches the sober design.
